This compact, free-flowering cyclamen produces an abundance of jewel-bright blooms above beautifully marbled, silver-patterned foliage. It is perfectly suited to windowsills, side tables, and smaller spaces, bringing a brilliant splash of colour to the home through the cooler months.

Cyclamen naturally enjoy the cool conditions of a British winter. With the right care, your plant can flower for weeks and may return year after year.

When Your Plant First Arrives

Your cyclamen has been carefully packaged for its journey, but give it a little time to settle before making any changes. Follow these simple first steps:

Unpack gently — remove all packaging and check the plant over. A little wilting or a dropped flower after transit is perfectly normal.
Choose a cool, bright spot — place it near a window where it will receive bright, indirect light. Avoid hot, direct afternoon sun.
Check the compost — feel the surface of the compost before watering. It should be allowed to dry slightly between waterings, but never become completely parched while the plant is actively flowering.
Let it settle — avoid repotting or moving it unnecessarily during the first couple of weeks while it adjusts to its new home.

Watering

Cyclamen are sensitive to excess moisture around the crown and tuber, so the safest method is to water from below. Place the pot in a saucer or bowl of water for around 20–30 minutes, then allow it to drain thoroughly before returning it to its decorative pot.

Water when the surface of the compost feels dry, checking regularly while the plant is flowering. Avoid pouring water over the centre of the plant or onto the leaves and flowers, as this can encourage rot. Never allow the pot to stand in water.

Light

Cyclamen persicum enjoys bright, indirect light. A cool north- or east-facing windowsill is often ideal. Some gentle morning sun is fine, but protect the plant from strong midday or afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and cause the compost to dry too quickly.

Temperature & Humidity

Cool conditions help cyclamen flowers last longer. Aim for a temperature between 10–18°C and keep the plant away from radiators, fires, heated appliances, and warm draughts. Normal indoor humidity is usually suitable, so there is no need to mist the plant. Avoid placing it in a steamy room or misting directly onto the flowers, leaves, or crown.

Feeding

During the flowering season, feed your cyclamen with a high-potash liquid fertiliser every two to three weeks. Always follow the instructions on the fertiliser label and apply feed to already-moist compost rather than completely dry roots.

Removing Spent Flowers and Leaves

Regularly remove faded flowers and yellowing leaves to keep your plant looking tidy and encourage further flowering. Hold the flower or leaf stem close to the base, then twist and pull it cleanly away from the tuber. Avoid leaving short pieces of stem behind, and take care not to damage the crown.

After Flowering and Summer Dormancy

As the flowering season ends, the leaves may naturally turn yellow and die back. This is part of the cyclamen's normal growth cycle, not necessarily a sign that something is wrong. Gradually reduce watering and allow the plant to rest in a cool, shaded place.

Keep the compost mostly dry during summer dormancy, taking care not to leave the tuber sitting in moisture. In early autumn, when new growth appears, begin watering gradually and move the plant back into a bright, cool position. This can encourage a fresh season of growth and flowers.

Repotting

Cyclamen generally prefer to be slightly pot-bound, so repot only when necessary. If repotting is required, do it as the plant comes out of dormancy in early autumn. Use a free-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage holes. Keep the top of the tuber slightly above the compost surface to help prevent rot.
